im predicting total adwords domination…
July 23, 2006
Once again the big companies will dominate the competition, while Google gets richer.
With the advancements in polularity of pay per click campaigns, affordable was the past and its slipping away.
Most businesses are based on competitive keywords. These keywords cost maybe .20-.65 cents in the past, now may go anywhere from $1-5+ per click. Eventually the sponsored links for competitive keywords will be nearly that of search engine results. Im already starting to see it, for example I just looked through 25 pages of sponsored links for “loans”, before I got sick of clicking through them.
Eventually, only the big dogs will be able to afford keywords in demand. The smaller companies will be forced to use less searched keywords, and even they may run .50 + per click in the next years.
Even then the sponsored results list will be too long to make a benefit, and drive the prices up again.
Longtail marketing would be the only way to really prevent this.
Nothing replaces the top 10 search results. The money you spend to get to the top of the SERP is worth it. Even if you spend more to get to the top of the list, you will eventually save money and get so much more traffic and profit. Do what it takes…
